World languages program may be expanded to elementary schools
The 2000 United States Census reports that more than 82 percent of Americans speak only English. Wauwatosa East High School German teacher Eva Tuinstra has set out to fix this fact, piloting a new world languages program for Wauwatosa elementary schools. “If a person were to start with one of those ‘easier’ languages [French, German, Spanish], start early in life and get good at it, then they could move into a harder and more vital language like Farsi, Thai or Mandarin and literally have a job handed to them,” Tuinstra, Content Team Leader for World Languages in the
