Vitrano retires after 40-year career

Today, seniors at Wauwatosa East High School are looking forward to leaving East after their fourth year. Meanwhile, Latin teacher Joe Vitrano has something much bigger to look forward to: leaving East after his 40th year of teaching.

Vitrano has educated and entertained his students five days a week every school year since September 1970. Sweet talk: Other things that happened

Sept. 6, 2006 – A boy with curly hair parted exactly down the middle of his scalp steps into Wauwatosa East High School wearing Skechers and a hopeful smile. Smile fades at lunch time when the gaps at each table magically close upon his approach. Boy eats standing up, thankful it consists mostly of Gogurt.

Feb. 14, 2007 – Boy attends screening of “I am Legend” alone. Wonders at all the couples in the audience.
